The Basics Bank is the social welfare arm of the Brighton & Hove City Mission. We support people who are in genuine financial crisis that isn’t a result of their choice of lifestyle. We offer practical support with food and basic kitchen and bedding needs.

What we Offer
We are able to offer up to four weeks support with food parcels to the value of £25 per week. Those with particularly difficult situations can receive help for longer. For those moving from homelessness or temporary accommodation we provide Start-Up Home Packs containing bedding and basic home-ware. Each year many hundreds of visits are made to the Basics Bank. Why do people need Food Parcels?
It might seem incredible that there should be a need for food parcels in our mostly affluent and advanced society today, but the reality is quite different. We often hear clients say to us that they have not eaten a meal for days and it’s a humbling experience to see their reaction when they visit us and see the full shelves on display in the Basics Bank. Start-up Home Packs
Start-up Home Packs are just that, and consist of essential items that include bedding; duvets and covers, pillows and pillow cases – kitchen equipment; saucepans, kettle, utensils – crockery and cutlery, (plus a tin opener) – bathroom accessories; towels, flannels, soap, deodorant, and so on.
They are a welcome gift to those moving from homelessness or from temporary accommodation. Some have little more than what they stand up in.
Who can refer people to the Basics Bank?
The Basics bank operates by referral only from recognised agencies. Currently we work in partnership with over 40 different agencies across the city. By working with recognised agencies we are able to ensure, as far as possible, that our resources are targeting those who are really in need. Some sample case histories of folk we have helped gives an insight into the problems that face many of our clients. View a list of Referral Agencies
