Together with the City Mission we can make a difference

Support

As a service provider and non-profit making charity we rely totally on others to provide the support we need to not only maintain our existing ministries but also to see them develop and expand. That support is provided in three main areas.

PRAYER - At the heart of any believing Christian community is the faith that there is a God who not only hears our prayers but also answers them. The City Mission staff and workers will regularly meet for prayer and will also share prayer needs with our partners in the form of a quarterly prayer diary. A number of our partners subscribe to our prayer e-mail which is sent as needs arise. Please contact us if you would like to commit yourself to praying for the work.

We also host a monthly gathering billed as “Prayer for the City and for Revival” from 1.00 – 2.00pm. on the third Wednesday of each month at the City Mission Centre, to which all who share our concern for the spiritual life of the City are invited.

FINANCIAL - The financial needs of the City Mission are met by individuals, churches, trusts and organisations that recognize the significant difference we are making to many lives across the city. Gifts can be allocated to any of the departments or specific projects that are in operation or simply to the general fund. Those individual partners who pay tax can sign a Gift Aid declaration which will enable us to recover the tax from the Inland Revenue. A finance leaflet is available on request from the City Mission which includes a Gift Aid declaration and bank mandate for those wishing to donate regularly by standing order.

A number of other novel fund-raising initiatives are available. For example we can supply you with a BHCM Nectar card which can be used to collect points at BP Garages, Sainsbury’s and many other High Street retailers, earning for the Mission 1¼% of everything you spend: e-mail us using this link to request a Nectar card.

In addition if you order on-line purchases through the website www.all4charities.co.uk, and name Brighton & Hove City Mission as your chosen recipient, we can benefit from the commission on the deal, amounting to 5 – 25% dependent on retailer.

Another vital funding stream over past years has been through gifts left in wills by our supporters. If you would be interested in setting up a legacy in favour of the Mission, you can download our legacy leaflet giving general advice, or e-mail us to arrange an appointment with our legacies adviser. We are also registered with www.totallyFREEwills.co.uk, whose services enable you to set up the details of your will on line, which is then processed by a local solicitor (entirely without charge to you or the Mission) and finally sent to you for signature. You may also like to consider the possibility of donations in lieu of flowers at the funeral of a loved one, in which case you can download our tribute leaflet which explains this method of giving.

PRACTICAL - A number of our partners give their time by helping the City Mission in the various departments. Volunteer help is vital as it enables us to effectively deliver more services to our beneficiaries. Volunteering for the City Mission will enable you to explore, develop and use your gifts in a supporting caring environment. You can access here our 'Volunteer Opportunities' board, or 'Volunteer Opportunities' powerpoint. We would love to hear from you even if you only have a few hours to spare: e-mail us now using this link if you would like to offer your services.
