Food Parcels
For some, it seems incredible that there is a need for food parcels in our affluent advanced society, but the reality tells us otherwise. We hear clients say they have not eaten a meal for days and see them get excited over, say, a packet of cornflakes. How do they arrive at this point of crisis? Let this case history illustrate.
AG - a 17 year old girl can no longer bear living with her abusive alcoholic father - packs some possessions in a bag and leaves. Following a period of sofa surfing (sleeping in friends' houses) she ends up sleeping on the beach. Fortunately, this only lasts for a few nights as she is referred to Social Services who provide temporary accommodation and refer her to the Basic Bank to receive some food until some financial support can be arranged.
